"Type S" hydrate refers to the double hydrated dolomitic lime. Due to it's unique chemical/physical properties, this hydrate is commonly used in building construction, especially in masonry applications. Therein, it imparts increased workability to the masonry mortar and adds increased bond strength between the mortar and masonry unit (clay brick, concrete block, clay tile, etc.)
